Resurrection of the Bands

On October 19th, 2013 a very unique paranormal idea occurred. It was called Resurrection of the Bands and the city had never heard anything like it before.  This was actually a paranormal investigation using new theories by creative genius Daniel C. Morrison. Live music was used as one of the tools for investigation.

Usually, these types of investigations aren’t publicized. But it’s a party and everyone loves a good cover band! Honestly though, the reason to make this a public event was to help raise money for a new online magazine started by Daniel C. Morrison called Louisville Limelight Magazine and also to help raise awareness for Caring Across Counties, a non profit organization started mid year this to take non perishable food items, clothes, etc. to needy families in the region to the towns in most need.

Louisville Limelight Magazinewww.louisvillelimelight.wix.com/home

Caring Across Counties – www.caringacrosscounties.org

The website, www.resurrectionofthebands.wix.com/home was pretty accurate.  A combination of paranormal groups known collectively as The Dark Side of Louisville Paranormal Society, 5 local musicians (originally 6 but one did not show up), a Demonologist and Spiritualist (the scheduled Medium could not make it) and a group of enthusiastic show goers were going to attempt something never tried before, to communicate with the spirits of famous musicians who have crossed over via musical celebration.  Seriously. Just hear me out here.

The theories under investigation:

  1. By providing a positive atmosphere (can’t have negative spirits bothering us so it was important not to have a location known to be haunted), a party/celebration would occur honoring the spirits of legendary musicians who have crossed over.

  2. Having artists perform live music of songs that held a special meaning for the artists who have crossed over would help alert the spirits to a piece of them that had a strong attachment to our physical world.

  3. Use the Law of Attraction in advance to make the intention clear and give the Universe plenty of time to coordinate things to make the connection the best it can be.

So how did this go? Or rather, what does all that mean?

If you’ve ever been to a family gathering, big party, or even passionate music concerts and took pictures you might notice orbs in the picture. Paranormal investigators, Spiritualists and others say that a loved one who has crossed over is always aware of you. In the most happiest times, when the positive energy is at a high they can really make their presence known. Usually, they are dancing and singing and just enjoying that great, high flying vibe that the group is giving off. It’s a matching energy. So they will be there. The orb you see is the light signature of loved ones and other High Spirits and guides just joining in on the phone. The energy that the group of people giving off just happens to supply an opportunity to see the spirits.

Ok, we’re good so far. But how do we make sure low entities, or the darker spirits don’t protrude in a public event?

Good question. The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like. More specifically, the thoughts you think over and over bring the circumstances in your life. That’s the super basics of it. Trusting in that alone would make the event work out that way. But let’s say that the event planner and musicians and paranormal groups and the event location itself wasn’t constantly brimming with positive thoughts. No worries, bringing in Rob, a Spiritualist, would take care of the other pieces.

Rob is fluent in many religions and does healing work and blessings in a multitude of cultures to be more beneficial to as many people as possible. With a history spanning studies in these and other holistic methods his repertoire of blessings can easily repel negative spirits coming through an investigation, a home and even people.  So the event was covered there.

Each local musician picked was also the Law of Attraction in force. The Universe lined up to make sure the best possible musicians could be there. In fact, event planner Daniel C. Morrison explained that he sent dozens of messages, hundreds of contacts and had several volunteers helping with gathering the right location and bands. And it was a struggle but eventually the event was blessed with the following local musicians:

Anthony Morrison and Todd Cochran – acoustic guitarists and vocals/background vocals honoring the spirits of Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and Layne Staley (Alice In Chains).

Stem Holder of Stem Holder and the Geez – vocalist honoring the spirit of Jim Morrison

Chad Keizer – vocalist honoring the spirit of Kurt Cobain

Larry Montgomery – vocalist of cover band Parts Unknown honoring the spirit of Layne Staley

Rek Lee – vocalist, lead guitarist and song composer honoring the spirit of Jimi Hendrix

Wayne "Prince" Ancrum - performer honoring the spirit of Michael Jackson (sadly, he was a no call no show)

This theory was that by having passionate singers/musicians who had an emotionally strong tie to the deceased musicians and the songs selected, their performance and sincere honoring of the deceased musicians would alert the spirits to what was going on. Plus, 10 weeks or more before the event Daniel C. Morrison had asked the Universe to coordinate the chain of events for this event to work out the very best way it could.

So what you’re saying is that these local artists would do a heartfelt job performing the songs and by doing that the spirits of the original artists would come through?

Precisely! I guess I should’ve said that. But you’re getting it. So, to recap, the theory of a party/celebration atmosphere, blessing the entire area to make sure it brings only the positive spirits through and by using live music which is the true essence of emotion in a very specific, noble way these spirits would come through.

One other important note here since this event was theoretical; many Spiritualists and Paranormal Investigators say that when a person crosses over that the positive part of them, the very core of their being, the part of them that is God, goes right back to the Universal Consciousness, or God. The parts that aren’t positive stay behind. The parts left behind we refer to as ghosts, or dark spirits.

This investigation was also testing this theory. They only wanted the positive and true nature of the spirits of these legendary musicians to come through which is why the Law of Attraction was put into place long ago and that the area was blessed.

Now that you have the back story, how did this event go down? I’ll tell you. First, I want to tell you that at the time of this review going out to be published the Paranormal group, nor any but one of the artists, got anything to me. I could not review the actual footage. This will come later and be reviewed by Daniel C. Morrison. What you will have is a recount of my experience, pictures by Dan Morris and a couple youtube videos of Anthony and Todd’s performance with Larry Montgomery and Chad Kaiser. Sorry about that. It is worth noting that about 4 funerals happened right after the show in the lives of the paranormal group, event planners and performers so it threw the time table way off. Weird, eh? Now on to the show!

Daniel did a great job explaining the event and the local artists were there, ready to give it a go. Although most were skeptical it was still too awesome of an idea to not see what occurred. Plus, the theories made sense.

When I walked in the atmosphere was pretty good feeling. Union Station nightclub is where this event was held and it did look like a basement. There was a wooden dance floor with some tables and chairs around but not too many.

The paranormal group was set up with a ton of equipment.  Cameras and a monitoring system were aimed at the stage, off stage and on the group themselves who sat on a slightly raised platform that had couches and a coffee table. Talk about a neat setup. Sure, we can understand why Union Station looks “ghetto” but honestly, it had a nice creepy look to it. While I wouldn’t have a wedding there, an event like this wouldn’t be bad.

As I walked around each I noticed that the artists were highly anticipating the outcome. It’s too bad the headlining artist, Wayne “Prince” Ancrum was a no call, no show. He was to honor the spirit of Michael Jackson. It didn’t happen though, sadly.

It also looked like the sound was having some issues. Was this the works of the spirits playing around with Daniel? Turns out, the sound guy setup and had somewhere else to be, leaving the crew to fend for themselves. Luckily, one of the members of the paranormal group was a tech guy who knew a few things about the sound. It’s not all the sound guy’s fault though as Daniel did say early on that he most likely didn’t need the sound guy to stay around. But I agree, to pay someone over one hundred dollars to setup and bail was a bit sucky.

These were the only gripes I could muster up from the people in attendance. All in all there were about 40 people there but most of them were performers or friends of the performers with less than a dozen unknowns.  After a bit of questioning and even researching I found out that the event was not advertised by the club owner at all. One weak, misspelled line about the event a day or two before the show on the Union Station facebook page was the only mention by the club owner. It’s unfortunate because the event created quite a buzz online and in smaller local media circles. But with the WWF in town and a lot of other Halloween things going on the attendance was a bit low.

Later, the show goers would talk of how thrilled they were to be part of this and how awesome some of the contact was. But I’ll tell you in this step by step, lengthy review how it went down.

After Daniel stumbles off stage and violently sprains his ankle (way to keep it quiet dude, I know it was painful), Stem Holder sings 5 songs to honor the spirit of Jimi Hendrix. It does suck a little that he had to sing via a karaoke disc and that Daniel and a couple others tried to work the sound in the darkness on the stage (except for a faint glow coming from a cell phone to help them see the knobs).  But before too long you could hear the majesty in Stem’s voice. Sporting long, curly hair and a facial complexion that looked like a young Jim Morrison with a dress attire to match really stood out. Was Stem purposefully trying to look the part or was this natural?

By the time his songs were over I could see that Stem was a natural. His voice was pleasant and at first, seemed to lack a little power, but by the third song he convinced me that somewhere inside of him Jim Morrison did have a huge influence on his musical direction in life.

Once he finished the doors were closes and the lights went as completely off as they could. Pattie Hatchel did a great job leading the investigation by asking questions. With an EVP in place the audio was recorded. She also used a Ghost Box (a device that scans radio frequencies in rapid succession allowing spirits to communicate using sounds to form words that closely resemble an answer specific to the question asked).

This investigation lasted about 6 minutes or so. Some of the questions asked were for the spirit to tell us its name. I thought this was a silly question since the intent was to directly contact him. Of course, I may have misunderstood the questions as I wasn’t sitting close enough to hear it entirely. I did hear questions asked of Jim if he liked the performance and his favorite songs, etc. Not really great quality questions but this was a warm up set. As they let him know they had to end the communication to get ready for the next spirit it did sound like a “thank you” was said through the ghost box.

2013 Review

This investigation lasted about 6 minutes or so. Some of the questions asked were for the spirit to tell us its name. I thought this was a silly question since the intent was to directly contact him. Of course, I may have misunderstood the questions as I wasn’t sitting close enough to hear it entirely. I did hear questions asked of Jim if he liked the performance and his favorite songs, etc. Not really great quality questions but this was a warm up set. As they let him know they had to end the communication to get ready for the next spirit it did sound like a “thank you” was said through the ghost box.

After a 10 minute break, Anthony Morrison and Todd Cochran took the stage to start honoring the spirit of Kurt Cobain.  It’s important to note here that Anthony and Todd both had a fantastic look. Anthony sported a red, skull t-shirt and black fedora that had a skull and rose on it. He was a handsome man and he looked very natural on stage.  I picked up no flaws with his guitar playing. He was also the background vocalist and did a great job on harmony although his mic was lower than it should have been.

Todd Cochran took the lead vocals for the first two songs. His attire looked very alternative casual. It was like he knew that it was about music and fit the profile well. In fact, I thought he looked a bit like Layne Staley the way his facial hair was.

Musically, there were only a few guitar slipups and rarely did he go off key or lose power in his lead vocals. It was a great honoring that got even more enhanced when Chad Kaiser took the stage.

Chad has a natural moodiness to his vocals that are a bit dark. It’s not dark like he’s an angry or depressed person naturally. It’s just a bit dark in that cool, gets you into it sort of way. His vocals were a true delight to listen to and I may have gotten chills at one time, especially during “Something In the Way”.

After this round was over another investigation took place to communicate with Kurt Cobain. It started again with a Ghost Box but midway through the investigation, with only a bit coming through they decided to use an Obelisk (a device that is preprogrammed with words. If the energy is high enough a spirit can answer questions using the best words it can find in this device). Of course, there is way too much skepticism out there for this. I listened with an open mind. Although there may only be about 500 words in the device, think about the coincidence of a word being directly related to a question that is a very unique question to begin with.

When the device was first turned on it went crazy. The group said usually it goes through a warm up phase where the device scans the words. But this thing wouldn’t shut up for a solid 2 minutes or so, it seemed. The group shockingly expressed that the device had never done that before.

What else was cool is that more people asked better questions. It seemed like the answers coming through were mostly vowel sounds but sometimes coherent words came through. The coolest thing was when they asked about how the performance went. From the box came words that said it was okay. When asked about the lights the words from the box said stuff like “too bright” or mentioned their color. It was as if the spirit was letting us know that the lights were interfering with ease of communication. These lights are in reference to the stage lights.

Also, to the right of the stage was an EMF detector and on the far right was a device with fiber optic looking strands that lit up when spirits were around it.  Several times the investigators tried to get the lights on both devices to light up. At one time, the EMF detector was put on the floor close to Daniel and it lit weakly.  The fiber optic one lit up a couple times on the far right where the public was standing.

Another awesome note to mention here is that Todd asked a bit about Cobain’s death and it really sounded like the words “not suicide” came through. Even if this device was a faker you have to admit that such a specific question with a specific answer that is kind of rare would come through.

In this review a video of that entire Cobain investigation, unedited, is provided. What do you think?

After another break Larry Montgomery took the stage to honor the spirit of Layne Staley. Larry did a pretty good job singing and he did have passion. It did seem like he lacked a bit of power in his vocals but this could be the sound. The speakers did have to be moved due to feedback and it did sound like one was busted from previous use. Still, Larry pressed on and although a bit of power was lacking and memory plagued the lyrical delivery, Larry still managed to pull off a convincing tribute. What was extra magical about this performance is that Todd, Anthony and Larry all expressed a very deep connection to Staley as a vocalist and how Alice In Chains was a heavy influence in their musical careers/hobbies.

This investigation went underway again with the Obelisk but later went back to the Ghost Box. The questions asked were a bit weaker here but some compelling answers came through. Again, the lights were mentioned. Sadly, during this session my ears were a bit ringing either due to the sound or the energy of the spirits in the room.

Because of this I do not recall much of what was said. But very interestingly Anthony was quietly playing on the acoustic guitar,“River of Deceipt”, a song Staley did with the group Mad Season. It was subtle and off to the side. But I swear to you I felt like someone walked passed me over to it. As I looked over Anthony cleverly was standing by the fiber optic device playing. The lights on the tips of each fiber lit up several times as if Staley was standing right there joining Anthony in song. I so wish there was a visual to show you of this. It was awesome.

Next, another break was given and then the raffle prizes were handed out. Some of these prizes were skeleton necklaces, plush ghost and skull pillows and cutesy things like that. But also, a pair of Comedy Caravan tickets were given away and so was a VIP pass for two donated by The Haunted Hotel, one of the sponsors of this event. Also, a whopping four pairs of passes were donated by The Devils Attic, another sponsor of this amazing event. So the prizes were killer. Others include a private investigation by the paranormal group, free Tarot reading by on-site Dream Interpreter and Tarot reader, Kathy, and an all expense paid trip to Taco Bell. Just kidding about that but wouldn’t that be cool?

The final performance came next with Rek Lee honoring the spirit of Jimi Hendrix. The phrase “save the best for last” rang true here. While the other performers rocked it out, Rek had prerecorded and mixed the songs allowing him to sing and play lead guitar on stage. So this wasn’t acoustic but a powerful electric performance which livened the place up greatly.

To be fair, Daniel did originally intend for a cover band to play the songs in a live way, not acoustically. But Law of Attraction had a different story here.

Back to Rek, his performance was amazing. The man literally bleeds music. His leads were flashy, his showmanship was organic and his vocals were spot on. He was a one man show for sure. Earlier, I found out that he does a show called Dead Legends where he spray paints portraits of deceased musicians while he performs. I saw the youtube video in action which you can too if you check out his interview page here – http://louisvillelimelight.wix.com/home#!rek-lee/ci5c. That show he also honors spirits of Jim Morrison, Stevie Ray Vaughn and others.

Rek Lee was definitely the most energetic but that’s because he had the means to. The other performers weren’t able to because of limited equipment. So, after Rek brutalized 5 stellar songs from the Hendrix legend himself the final investigation went underway.

This investigation utilized the Ghost Box again. But the questions were much better. Daniel asked some specific to an interview he saw weeks before Hendrix’s passing. He asked if Jimi was cool with his decision not to marry and have kids. He also asked what songs he plays on the other side. And at times the words coming through seemed to mention that he had a female with him because one of the first questions asked was if Jimi had anyone there with him.

I kind of wondered if it was Janis Joplin because originally her spirit was going to be honored but it was tough finding someone who loved her and sounded like her that could make the event. So she was replaced with Jim Morrison.

After this, the group begin to wrap up and Rob put the final blessing touches on the place to send the spirits back.  I applaud Daniel for thanking each spirit sincerely and inviting them to stay around and mingle with the other spirits. He even cleverly asked a few humorous questions and asked if they hung around with each other when not attending events.

All in all it was an extremely well organized event with a theme that truly was a first of its kind in history.  There were results and I would have loved to have gone into more detail but it’s already mid November and the footage has not come yet. From a professional perspective it kind of sucks as I do need to turn this in so that it can be published.

So stay tuned for the final footage and check out some of the stellar pics. While none of the pics have orbs or anything you can at least see the talents of Dan Morris and the artists giving it their all. I do recommend watching the Cobain footage in its entirety as well as Rek Lee’s video provided on his page. You will also see interviews from the other performers before too long. Plus, you can hear the audio interviews by clicking play on the specific ones.

Thanks Daniel for this amazing event. I would totally go to another one. And $15 was an excellent price. Actually, it’s a bit underpriced. I’ve stood in lines for hours to a haunted attraction that lasts 45 minutes for a lot more than $15. Oh, how I wish you sold some VIP tickets. I would have loved to have been part of a separate investigation for the spirits that are naturally hanging around those streets!

Go to the next Resurrection of the Bands and you won’t be disappointed. Unlike television, the real deal is exciting. And by having live music as a tool is not only genius it makes the entire event a knock out awesome time!
