THE INTERVIEW

Daniel/HRM: Please tell me your name, what part you play in the band and if you think Cheerios the size of life rafts would be a great idea since they, too, float.

Brent:  Vocals and guitar, Yes, that would be a great idea because if you didn't have to use it as a raft, you could eat on it for a whole week!

Steven: Drums and percussion, I would rather have Cinnamon Toast Crunch! (we all found out tonight that Steven is NOT a Cherrios fan!)

Tony:  Lead guitar and vocals, Yeah, I'd say that anything that keeps heart disease down has to be a good thing!

Daniel/HRM: In all your life, how unique was that question?

Brent: VERY unique! *laughter*

Steven:  Pretty unique! *more laughter*

Tony:  I've never been asked about life raft sized Cherrios so, yeah! *lots more laughter*

Daniel/HRM: What is your favorite flavor of Cheerios?

Tony:  Plain and simple, with sugar!!!

Steven: I don't like Cherrio's!

Brent:  I like the Honey Nut ones!  (only after reminded that there were Honey Nut Cherrios!!)

Daniel/HRM: Do you think your music would make a great fit for a Cheerios commercial?

(Steven knows nothing about Cherrios and their manager finds this disturbing!)

Tony:  Possibly, can we get a musical bowl out of the deal?!!

Daniel/HRM: Your music reminds me a bit of cheery stuff. With such an eclectic mixture of influences ranging from gospel, country, folk, rock, classic rock, etc. was it tough deciding on a music direction to follow?

Brent/Steven/Tony:  No, because we just do whatever we want to do.  We write whatever comes out; we play what we feel.  We're probably more of a rock band.

Daniel/HRM: What is your musical goal?

Brent:  For our third cd to be the best that we can do!

Tony:  To just keep playing music; working and playing music!

Daniel/HRM: I think the production work is great stuff and I like the humble nature of the band. Some think that humbleness is overrated when it comes to music. I disagree. What's your thoughts?

Brent:  I think all music has to come from the heart and that's why it appears that we have a humble nature.  We play what we enjoy, from our hearts!

Tony:  I think that's what makes CheKane unique.  Any one of us can bring something to the table and the others are gonna follow that song.

Daniel/HRM: If I understood correctly you have a few different projects out. To clarify, what are each project and what is the style like on each?

Brent:  Mystic Sessions is Americana Rock with a little bit of country.  It was our first cd.  dreamline, our second cd, is more of classic rock.

Daniel/HRM: So this latest un-named project, describe what it should sound like when it is done.

Chekane:  CheKane!  A harder edge CheKane!

Daniel/HRM: And when do you expect it to be done?

Brent/Chekane:  Hopefully by December, 2013.

Daniel/HRM: What else is the band doing while this is being done?

Brent/Chekane:  Everybody has families and full time jobs so we're sort of just doing the best we can, a little bit at a time.

Daniel/HRM: What kind of breakfast do the other members typically have, or do you know?

Brent:  A slim fast bar or a pop tart! (if you can't be healthy, just load up on sugar!)

Steven:  A Tombstone pizza and Mountain Dew!  (yep, he's the younger one in the group)

Tony:  Coffee and a nature bar.  (helps keep him uplifted and positive!)

Daniel/HRM: Do you think more than 5 people will care about that question? (laughs)

Brent:  My mom would care!

Tony:  More than 5?  Maybe 4-1/2!  *laughter*

Steven:  Probably my doctor. *more laughter*

Daniel/HRM: What's something you're excited to tell readers?

Brent:  I just came back from California where I got to work with Kenny Aronoff.  Kenny played drums on a couple CheKane songs that will be on the next cd. Kenny has played with artists such as John Mellencamp, Bob Seger, Elton John, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Miranda Lambert, Smashing Pumpkins, and many more!  Recently he recorded 2 songs on Rod Stewarts new cd and on John Fogertys cd being released late May.    (we won't mention Brent's man-crush on Kenny)

Daniel/HRM: Are you finding much success in Louisville when it comes to getting noticed?

Steven:  We would like to be more involved in the local music scene.

Tony:  We stay so busy outside of CheKane that we don't push it.  If we pushed it harder we'd have a bigger name.

Brent:  We are so busy with our families and jobs that we just have to take it slow.

Daniel/HRM: Does this match your musical goals?

Brent:  For now, probably, until we can get some time freed up to continue on.

Daniel/HRM: Where can people go for more on the band?

Chekane:  www.chekane.com  which has links to facebook, twitter and reverbnation.

Daniel/HRM: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Chekane:  Thanks for giving us this opportunity!

Tony:  One and one and one is three! Just like the Beatles said!

Daniel/HRM: Here's that last signature question. Let's say someone put about 5 vitamin supplements in your lemonade. When you drank it you instantly recalled your last greatest feat. What was the feat, why did they do that and what song of yours would best represent this?

Brent: When I got to go to the Grand Canyon and the song would be Zombie Highway. *MUCH LAUGHTER HERE*  The feat would have been that I almost fell over the edge of the canyon...I would have died and been a zombie!

Daniel/HRM: What did you think of the interview?

Brent:  Awesome!  We appreciate it!

Tony:  Makes me want a bowl of Cherrios! Can we do a Cherrios commercial now?

Steven:  (he still wants Cinnamon Toast Crunch)

Daniel/HRM: Thanks a lot for being part of our Louisville Highlight section. I wish you the best!

Story and Interview by
Daniel C. Morrison - Louisville Limelight Magazine

Here is a local Louisville, KY rock band with a big heart and great skill to match. While they aren't really hip hop or rock they still have a likability to them and I think deserve a nod for being a Louisville music representative.

Brent Greco is the group Producer and band leader of sorts (Lead and Backing Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Piano, Mandolin and Banjo). He is a multi-instrumentalist with a heavy classic rock influence that helps shape the bands tempo and direction.  Brent is the arranger of the new project while also lending songwriting and instrumentation.

Tony Beam (Lead Electric Guitars, Bass, Lead and Backing Vocals) turns it up a notch as the groups resident "mojo-man"!  It's his uplifting, positive force that keeps the group grounded and central while Steven Berger (Drums and Percussion), the youngest member of the group, adds that extra little touch that gets the vibes going in full force.  Steven is the resident "tempo-man" that also lends a hand with mixing and arranging, as well as helping develop songs lyrically.

Currently, they are hard at work on a new project that is still unnamed.  Originally, their first project “ The Mystic Sessions”, was "Americana in nature and delved into Country, Rock, Folk and Blues with mostly theme based song crafting," they say. "dreamline”, their second project, turned out to be more of a Classic Melodic Rock style driven lyrically by melancholy hook lines. Their third, and yet unnamed project, is in its infancy and still evolving. Their goal is to, "communicate clearly the hope, hurt, loss, mystery, elation, and often times unclear path that life and the relationships within this life offer us."

Let's get a peek inside the life of Chekane now.
