C. Beanz is a new artist rising out of the depths of many hip hop acts in the Louisville scene today.  After listening to the 11 tracks of his mix CD entitled “In Love With My Pen” I have to say it wasn’t entirely for me.  He does have a confidence in his voice that commands respect, but many times lacks in his diversity of subjects from one song to the next.  I do enjoy his grimy style and delivery in  his track called “The Box”.  And the fact that the production of each song didn’t sound the same as the one that came before it made me wonder what I was in stored for next. 

His punch lines are better than the average rapper but the majority of the mix CD I catch him speaking on the same subject over and over again.  I realize being a new artist to the public eye forces you to be cocky with your words to prove that you are great at what you do, but for me substance is a must.  On that note, I do appreciate the breaths of fresh air that his songs “Don’t Forget” & “Dreams for the Moment” gave me by opening the door a little more so people can get a peek at who he is, and how he views certain subjects in his life. 

This mix CD might not catch the attention of most seasoned listeners, but with “In Love With My Pen” being his 1st project, C. Beanz still has plenty of room to grow.
