Louisville's B Simm

B Simm: What's up world, my name is B SIMM aka SIMMY. I think I would go back in time to see older relatives and see what I was like as a kid.

Daniel/HRM: Tell me an inspirational tale about your name or if this is a horrible question talk to me about your favorite memory with a muppet.

B Simm: My name isn't really special. I think I was actually named after somebody on on a soap opera. I really wasn't in to muppets and I couldn't stand Muppet Babies, but I always wanted to know what the lady looked like. I bet she was bad. (laughs)

Daniel/HRM: You are the first Hip Hop Artist I am featuring from Louisville which is great because I am now starting a Louisville section since I live here and all. I noticed that the underground Hip Hop scene here is barely advertised yet I've been to a few shows and they seem to be kicking. What is your take on this mystery?

B Simm: I think the reason why there is no real push behind local music is because we need more support from the radio and  local businesses which would give artists more avenues to reach a broader audience. Louisville is tough city to break in.

Daniel/HRM: For the rock musicians anyway, the support for local music doesn't seem to be great. Is that the same, in your objective opinion, for Hip Hop?

B Simm:  I think there could always be more support in hip hop. It's just  hard to get a true following  because of that lack of radio support and there's not a lot of  young entrepreneurs like yourself trying to get these artists exposure. Also, now the game is so over saturated. If you got a facebook account, a twitter and a computer you can call yourself an artist. I just really don't like the term "local". I feel like it puts you in a box.

On Reverbnation this local boy is ranked #1. In fact, his talent is so noticed that he has toured with Lil'wayne, Jeezy, Bow wow, Jim Jones, and just recently finished a tour with Diddy Dirty Money's Kalenna.

Let me tell you a few things I enjoy about Louisville, KY's B Simm. This Hip Hop artist picks beats that feel good. He also adds variety. Additionally, his messages are authentic and resonate well. They aren't as outdone as most other lyrics and that always gets a nod from me.

THE INTERVIEW

Daniel/HRM: Please introduce yourself and tell me if you would rather travel back in time or into the future.

Daniel/HRM: You toured with some hot charting artists. How did you score tour gigs with them?

B Simm: As far as touring with  a lot of those big artists there was a lot of hard work, time, and politics that went into that equation. In the beginning of the tour they treated me and my team like rookies but as the shows continued they were damn near treating us like one of the majors.

Daniel/HRM: That's how it should be, respect! If you always got dye in your eye every time you ate an egg, even though this seemed ridiculous, and the only way to stop this was to say the names of three artists you'd love to colab with, who would they be?

B Simm: (laughs) JAY Z, YOUNG DRO, and a toss up between TAYLOR SWIFT /KENNY CHESNEY

Daniel/HRM: Other than your mixtape do you have an official album out or in the works that is all your doing?

B Simm: I have a collection album on itunes, kind of like a greatest hits album, and currently I am pushing my "Coming to America" deluxe mixtape and I'm working on my debut album but before I release it I want to make sure it can be marketed correctly.

Daniel/HRM: Do you ever get into making beats?

B Simm: I have tried to make beats but I'm not patient enough to sit through the process. I'll leave that to my homies Twon Hink Chris Rich and Sam Beast for now.

Daniel/HRM: I had great things to say about your lyrics and variety of style. Why don't you tell readers about your style but do so as if you were instructing Indiana Jones how to escape his next inventive, believable yet somehow unnatural suspenseful action scene.

B Simm: First, I would say "Indy Cover Your Heart" (laughs). My punchlines kind of hit you out of nowhere and just when you think you have every line mastered another one hits you. It's like when Indiana Jones slides under the closing door and still has that last second to grab his hat. I grew up listening to all kinds of music so I think you can credit my versatility to my mother.

Daniel/HRM: Were you ever an Indiana Jones fan?

B Simm: Yeah, Indiana Jones was my sh#t. ..dudda dudda, dudda dudda, whoo whoo. (laughs) That's my impression of the lava scene- I always wanted to hop in that little underground cave and  ride in that train.

Daniel/HRM: Harrison Ford does seem to be pissed in most of his roles. Do you have a song that represents his attitudinal roles?

B Simm: I had a song called "Breaking the Law" on my first mixtape SIMM CITY. Usually my anger comes out when I rap about not knowing my father.

Daniel/HRM: What is going on in your touring schedule this year?

B Simm: This year I'm looking to jump on some college tours and some with a few major artists l. I plan on touring in Europe again also.

Daniel/HRM: Do you have some Louisville shout outs to give?

B Simm: Shout out to the Louisville Cardinals, the 2013 National Champs, the womens team being the runner ups  and the football squad for winning the Sugar Bowl. Shouts out to everyone following me on twitter, instagram and for everyone who likes my fb fan page.

Daniel/HRM: Would you participate in a skype video rap battle?

B Simm: Skype battle... (laughs) My battle days are behind me.

Daniel/HRM: What about a water balloon fight in the Ohio River? Yes, IN the river.

B Simm: Balloon fight might be cool but that's a nasty ass river.

Daniel/HRM: (laughs) Where can people go to see or hear more of your stuff?

B Simm: Check me out on www.bsimm.com, facbook.com/bsimm, twitter & instagram @officialbsimm and also itunes.

Daniel/HRM: Prepare yourself for my signature Last Question. Let's say that you were standing in awe at the Kentucky Derby. This awe was caused by a similar memory when you were a child. To add more awe the name of the horse you bet on was named after a phrase you used to rely on growing up. What was the name, what was the memory and which song of yours best represents this?

B Simm: My phrase is, "I don't have time to have time." The horses name would be NINTENDO. (laughs) I remember the day I got that. I thought that I was on top of the world. My song would be, "TOAST IT UP" where I'm just talking about making something out of myself.

Daniel/HRM: I say hell to the yeah! Thanks for the interview, man. It was a treat!

B Simm: The interview was dope. I like how your questions weren't the cliche bullshit questions.

Daniel/HRM: I try. Thanks for the time, great music, supporting Louisville Limelight magazine and Hip Rock Magazine. Go kill it!
